Dying to Love won first place for the month of May in the Writer's Type First Chapter contest. It won a $25 Amazon giftcard and will be in the running for their yearly contest.

Excerpt:

The man's dark, penetrating stare pierced the fog of her fright and held her in place just as securely as his muscular, ink-sleeved arm. “Don’t scream.” The ominous warning was growled between panted breaths.

Long, shaggy locks of dark hair clung to his forehead and shadowed jaw. Tiny streams trickled down the prominent contours of his scowling features and poured over the thick muscles of his wide neck. The stranger shook his head as if to clear his vision before he spoke again. “I’m not going to hurt you, but I’ll tie you up and gag you… if I have to. Nod if you understand?”

She managed a tentative nod, but he continued to stare into her eyes as though he still awaited her reply. Mandy’s heartbeat pounded in her ears as her mind demanded she remain calm. Just do as he says. You can do this. Stay alive!

My latest story, EMBRACE THE PROMISE was released on Ebook on May 10, 2013 from Front Porch Romance Publishing. Exciting times! This story is especially close to my heart and I'm anxious to share these charming characters and their story with you all.

Derrick and Mattie face some difficult situations in their lives, a few that threaten to tear them apart forever. They each make some major mistakes and learn some painful lessons, but in the end they learn to forgive themselves as well as each other and Embrace The Promise of their own happily-ever-after. I hope you enjoy reading about them as much as I've enjoyed writing their tale.

My newest manuscript, Embrace The Promise, is complete! I'm so excited and can't wait for you to meet my newest hero, Derrick Baylor and his lady love, Madeline Stevens.  I 've known these characters for the better part of a decade but, it wasn't until last November--during NaNoWriMo--that I finally sat down with them and let them share their story.

It's a touching, sometimes heart-wrenching, tale of young love, overbearing parents, and finding one's way back into the arms of your lover after a series life-altering mistakes. It's about lies and betrayals, misunderstandings and hopelessness. It's about family and forgiveness, hope and understanding.  Derrick and Mattie suffer from this thing we call... life.  But, through courage and humility they find their way back into each others arms and learn to Embrace the Promise of a future full of love.

May people have asked me how long it took me to write, Woman of His Heart.  Well, it's hard to answer that question with a straight answer. The road to publishing my debut novel was long and winding, full of unexpected twists and turns and stalls.

I first met the characters for this story in 1999, but they were starting to emerge for a few years before. My children we still babies (well, they were in their first years of school but, in my mind that makes them babies). My husband traveled a lot with his job and I had just recently discovered a fondness for Westerns (yep, sexy, walk-the-line cowboys and stoic, fiercely loyal Indians). I toyed with these characters on and off for 12 years. It wasn't until last year that I decided to get serious about my writing and share them with the world. And so, I did.

The story's theme-- the redemptive power of love-- was actually inspired by a real life event involving my parents and a boy who's life was changed for the better when they took him in at the age of 12.  After he grew up, he ran into my mother while grocery shopping and thanked her for all she and my father had done for him.  As my mother relayed to me the details of the encounter, the ideas of Ryan Vance, Roger & Jessica Martin and their daughter, Daunielle were born.

Ryan had a rough time of life before he bumped into Roger & Jess on the street and they saw in him promise and hope. Granted, he was set on robbing them at the time, but that didn't dissuade them from believing in the goodness they knew still resided in his heart. He just needed love and direction to help him see it for himself. It was their belief that no one was beyond redemption where love was concerned. It was during his time on the Little Star Ranch, learning and working alongside those of the Martin household, that Ryan fell in love with Daunielle and she with him.

Of course, life and love is never that easy. Tragedy and trials wreak havoc for the two lovers, but they endure. They learn that accepting love is just as important as giving it. They discover the redeeming power of unconditional love and the healing that comes with opening one's heart to others in need. Daunielle suffers and survives. Ryan looses it all only to find more than he ever dreamed possible in the arms of the Woman of His Heart.

Woman of His Heart debuted in Ebook format on April 25, 2012 and is now at # 4 on Secret Cravings Publishing's Bestsellers list for Westerns! It seems to be doing well and has had some very complimentary customer reviews on SCP's website as well as Amazon.com

I'm currently hard at work on the finishing touches for my next novel, Embrace the Promise.  I will be submitting it for consideration sometime in the next month-- so, fingers crossed that it gets picked up before the end of the summer.

This has been an exciting week. My awesome editor, Kyle Lewis, and I finished the last few edits for my debut book,Woman of his Heart , and it has been sent off for one last once-over by the proofreader. And, the coolest part, was when I opened the email from Dawne' Dominique- cover artist for SCP- and saw for the first time the amazing cover she designed for it. She brought Ryan and Daunielle to life in the most perfect way.  I can't wait to have the finished product in my hands. This is all still so surreal.  More to come. . .
